Homework Expectations

HOMEWORK & HOMEWORK TIPS

Today all third graders received a H.U.G. folder (Homework User Guide).  The H.U.G. folder will be used for carrying assignments, notices, and papers to and from class.

Students have homework Monday - Thursday night. There is no weekend homework.

For the first few weeks you may need to remind them, but as the year continues they should take more responsibility for their assignments.

Each night all third graders are asked to read for 15-20 minutes. This can be done independently or with a parent. We would also ask that students spend time practicing their addition and subtraction facts for fluency and we will move towards multiplication as it is introduced.

Practicing math facts can come in many forms. We will discuss these with your child in class and we will send home a list of options to choose from nightly.

You and your child will have to find what works for both of you. Some students like to get their homework done as soon as they get home. Others like a little down time before they return to school work. I recommend consistency so that your child knows when it is time to do homework.  Then find a quiet place in your home for your child to work.

If your child is having difficulty with homework after the first few weeks, please let me know and we can discuss some strategies so your child can feel successful.
